Happy new year 2019! Although there are no major sporting events such as the Olympics, World Cup or Euro Cup happening this year, 2019 offers a great variety of sporting events. In the first part, we will be exploring the major sports event happening this year from January to June.
The AFC Asian Cup Football 2019 is happening right now in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The defending champion Australia is trying to get their second consecutive cup win while other monster-house nations such as Japan, South Korea, Iran and the host UAE are giving their best to compete for the title. Another interesting highlight would be dark horse teams such as Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam with their debut in the AFC Asian Cup Football 2019.
The NFL Super Bowl is back again in February with the New England Patriots seeking to redeem themselves from their loss in the last year’s final against the Philadelphia Eagles. This year, the Patriots will go against the Los Angeles Rams as they are trying to secure their 6th Super Bowl Championship. It will be happening in the 3rd of February at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
The 2019 All England Open is back again in Birmingham, United Kingdom. It will start on the 6th of March and ends on the 10th of the same month. This year, there are a lot of new faces in the roster and it is dubbed to be one of the most ‘competitive’ All England ever.
The classic boat race between Oxford and Cambridge will be happening on the 7th April 2019 at the River Thames. Join the event for a heated rivalry between the two-best universities in the United Kingdom
Also, don’t miss the Virgin Money London Marathon that is happening on the 28th of April. Last year’s event was a huge success with the starting point in Greenwich and finishing it at St James Park.
A lot of finals are happening in this month starting from the prestige FA Cup final on the 18th May in Wembley Stadium to the final of the Europa League that will take place on the 29th of May in Baku, Azerbaijan. The ICC Cricket World Cup would also commence on the 30th of May, and it will last until the 14th of July.
June is definitely the month for football lovers! The UEFA Champions League Finals will be held on the 1st of June and we will continue with the new format UEFA Nation League where England, Switzerland, Portugal and Netherlands are competing to claim the status of the best football nation in Europe. Two major football tournament, Women’s World Cup and Africa Nation Cup, will start respectively on the 7th of June.
